Impedance

The symbol Z is commonly used to represent electrical impedance.

Impedance is a term used to describe the resistance of a circuit where the sum of Resistance² + Reactance² = Impedance².

Resistance can be said to be, opposition to the flow of current when there is a direct force.

Reactance can be said to be, opposition or acceptance to the flow of current where there is a changing force.

Resitive, None Reactive components are called: Resistors.
Capacitive, Reactive components are called : Capacitors.
Inductive, Reactive components are called: Coils, Transformers, Chokes, Baluns

The term impedance can be used to describe the type of Loud Speaker.

Example: where a loud speaker's impedance may be given as 8 ohms but if you measure its resistance with a Direct Current Resistance Meter it may be say 0.5 ohm, the other 7.5 ohms will be the resultant reactive resistance  as developed within the coil of the loud speaker caused by the changing force that is needed to mimic sound waves.

At JW Hardy the term "Low Z" will be used to mean "Low Impedance" and will be used to describe in brief the Type of Loud Speaker.

Please Note: It is wise to take advise when considering and selecting loud speakers, so as to avoid unexpected cost or incompatibility to other selected items. Bye with caution, remember there are factors of Power, Impedance, Frequency Range
